Federal Way Public Schools proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its 2025 cohort of National Board Certified Teachers, who were recognized at a school board meeting in January 27, 2026.

National Board Certification is widely regarded as the highest credential in the teaching profession. The rigorous, voluntary process requires educators to demonstrate advanced knowledge, reflective practice, and a deep commitment to student learning. Teachers who earn this distinction exemplify instructional excellence and continuous professional growth.

Congratulations to the following educators for earning National Board Certification in 2025:

  • Elizabeth Benitez Martinez, TAF@Saghalie, certified in School Counseling/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood
  • Monica Cannon, Federal Way High School, certified in Exceptional Needs Specialist/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood
  • Whitney Halling, Educational Service Center, certified in Exceptional Needs Specialist/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood
  • Cole Hendricks, Thomas Jefferson High School, certified in Social Studies-History/Adolescence and Young Adulthood
  • Michael Lu, Sacajawea Middle School, certified in Mathematics/Early Adolescence

Research from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards consistently shows that students taught by National Board Certified Teachers experience stronger academic outcomes. The positive impact is especially meaningful for students from historically underserved backgrounds. Beyond the classroom, these educators often serve as instructional leaders, mentors, and collaborators who strengthen teaching and learning across schools.

Federal Way Public Schools is proud to recognize the dedication and expertise of these outstanding educators. Their commitment to excellence supports high-quality instruction, fosters a culture of professional learning, and advances the district’s mission to ensure every student thrives.
